Go to the festivals! Atlanta has some sort of parade, festival, or exposition almost every week. My favorites have been the Candler Park festival, the Pride Parade, and the St. Patrick's Day Parade.
Exploring new places to study - from the Matheson Reading Room to the Atwood Chemistry Building to the French Department lounge.
My most impactful class was my first-year English class. It focused on current issues and stories of immigration. We read news articles, listened to podcasts, and participated in SHINE - a program where we got to work with new citizens, refugees, and immigrants in metro-Atlanta. This class was engaging, let me practice writing in different ways, and was relevant to what is going on in the world today, as well as my personal interests.
My favorite Emory tradition is Farmer's Market Tuesdays. It brings students together at the center of campus. There are always great foods to try and people to speak with. I love having something to look forward to at the beginning of the week.
