The class that has been the most impactful was a continued writing class on the Civil Rights Movement with Dr. Carol Anderson. The class not only developed my writing and research skills, but also connected themes and events during the 1960s and their impact today. Dr. Anderson is also such an enthusiastic professor and really cared about her students! Our classes were always filled with lively discussion, making the hour speed by. Also, Dr. Anderson took the class out for dinner to a historic restaurant in Atlanta. We spent the night not only talking about the historical significance of the restaurant, but we also got to ask her questions about her life and career!
My favorite thing to do in Atlanta is visiting different museums! My favorite museum so far has been the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. It's an absolutely eye opening museum that highlights the Civil Rights Movement and its leaders. Also, another great place to visit is the Coca Cola Museum! It was super cool to walk around the exhibits and see names that I see on buildings at Emory (like Robert W. Woodruff who was the president of Coca-Cola).
On a random day, you're most likely to find me in the Atwood Chemistry Building. Although I am not a chemistry major, I always love sitting in the building and doing homework. The atmosphere in the building is very open and welcoming! Plus, it's always fun to see the chemistry labs going on through the windows in the center of the building. My friends and I always meet there between classes and talk while drinking coffee/eating delicious snacks from Highland Bakery.
My favorite tradition is Dooley's Week. Dooley's Week takes place in during the spring and is filled with different activities everyday of the week. The celebration ends with a concert with an amazing concert! Past artists have been Post Malone and AJR, so it's always a great concert to go with friends. My favorite part of the week is when Dooley, our unofficial mascot, goes around and cancels different classes.
