My favorite Emory tradition is Songfest! Songfest is a singing/dancing competition between the first-year residence halls. You make parodies with popular songs (my personal favorite was singing a Raoul version of First Class by Jack Harlow). My floor practiced for two hours each day before the competition and even though we didn't win, I met some amazing people who are my closest friends today.
to go to concerts! I stalk Ticketmaster like it's my job and I am often the one informing my friends of artists coming to Atlanta! One great thing about Emory is that our shuttles take you to the Marta station where you can get to most concert venues without having to pay for an uber. Some of my favorite concerts that I have been to include Seventeen, Ateez, DPR Ian, Mitski, Thee Sacred Souls, Ginger Root, and Ricky Montgomery.
in my room watching a movie on my projector! In my residence hall, my side of the floor has weekly movie nights. My room has become the designated movie room so at least once a week, my neighbors and I gather together and watch anything from horror movies to La La Land for the 7th time!
One of the most impactful classes I’ve taken was a German elective called Democracy, Protest, and Terrorism: Film After 1968. This course was especially relevant to today’s political and social climate, and I found it both thought-provoking and timely. Our professor’s deep knowledge and passion for the material made the class engaging and insightful. Each week, we watched and analyzed films that reflected key historical moments and movements, which added a new dimension to my understanding of both cinema and history. As a film enthusiast, getting to watch movies for homework was a dream come true—it combined my academic interests with one of my personal passions.
