at Emory University
Class of 2023
Hometown: Alexandria, VA
Major: Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies
Secondary Major: Arabic
My most impactful class was my discovery seminar, which first year students are required to take their first semester. It was Muslim and Arab film and literature, and it inspired me to pursue my current Middle Eastern Studies major!
My favorite thing to do in Atlanta is get dressed up with my friends and go out to a nice restaurant like South City Kitchen in Midtown every once and a while.
My favorite Emory tradition is specific to Oxford, but it's the convocation ceremony at the beginning of your first semester as a first-year: Sophomores hold lit candles as you listen to various speakers at Phi Gamma hall, and at the end, they pass off the flame of their candle to the first-years. I think it's really wonderful and just a little bit weird, and it really emphasizes how close the community between sophomores and first-years is on Oxford.
On a random day, you're most likely to find me jamming on the drumset or piano at Tarbutton Music Hall!
