My favorite thing to do in Atlanta is to go thrift shopping with my friends in Little Five Points. Little Five Points is a really cool, modern, and artsy neighborhood close to campus. In addition to clothing they have vinyl shops and restaurants. They have lots of culture and history that is apparent when you visit. I have never really seen another neighborhood like Little Five Points.
My favorite Emory tradition is Dooley's Week. Every year, Dooley's Week has a different theme surrounding our unofficial Emory mascot, the skeleton Dooley. Every day of the week there are different fun activities for students. In the past they have had bouncy slides, a mechanical bull, go-carts and more. They also always have lots of free food from food trucks and fun giveaways. The week culminates in a concert on campus that all students are welcome to attend for free. It can be easy to get very caught up in the day-to-day, but Dooley's week is a really good reminder to take a break from work every so often and have some fun while cherishing the time we have at Emory!
My most impactful class up to this point is the seminar I took last year. This course opened my eyes to philosophical thought. The seminar I chose focused on a couple of Plato's works and the writings of some early medieval philosophers. I thoroughly enjoyed our readings and further dissecting them during class. My professor was extremely enthusiastic about philosophy. This was the course that pushed me in the direction to become a philosophy major. I always knew I liked studying ethics, but I had never really considered studying philosophy until this class.
On a random day, you're most likely to find me in the chemistry building. The chemistry building has lots of cool study spots that are nice for concentrating on work, doing a group project, or studying with friends. They also have a coffee shop on the first floor. Most importantly, the chemistry labs are really beautiful and state of the art. Getting work done outside of the labs is very motivating.
